A Slice of Joy: Our Family Day at the Sourdough Festival

A Slice of Joy: Our Family Day at the Sourdough Festival

This month, our family set out on a little adventure—something just outside of our normal weekend rhythm. We were looking for a refreshing change of pace, a reason to be outdoors, and ideally, an experience that could teach us something new. That’s exactly what we found at the Sourdough Festival at 123 Farm in Cherry Valley, CA.

Most well-known for their Lavender Festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, 123 Farm surprised us with another seasonal gem: their 5th Annual Sourdough Bread Festival, held from April 5–20, 2025. Since sourdough is a favorite in our home, this felt like the perfect spring outing.

🍞 A Festival Full of Flavor and Learning

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming, educational, and full of charm. We explored exhibits about ancient grains, sourdough starters, and even gluten-free sourdough baking. The kids were drawn to the hands-on dough mixing station, where they got to feel the soft, stretchy dough and explore the magic of bread-making. Shape

🎶 Savoring Every Moment

After all the exploring, we made our way to The Eatery, where every dish celebrated sourdough in its own unique way. We dined outdoors with live music playing in the background, while the kids enjoyed the giant chess boards, wooden swings, and the pallet maze.

We sampled locally made oils, vinegars, olives, and tea blends, wandered through the vendor shops, and strolled under the shade of pine and oak trees near the soon-to-bloom lavender fields. It was a beautiful, peaceful experience that offered something for each of us.

🌟 A Day Well Spent

What made this visit truly special was how present and connected we felt. We stepped outside our everyday routine and into a space where we could explore, learn, laugh, and relax—together. It reminded us how powerful even a small shift in scenery and intention can be for our family.

We can’t wait to return for Lavender Nights later this year, to see how the farm transforms under the lights and stars.
